Single Serving Friends

Remember that quote in Fight Club about Single Serving Friends?  With the recent election I think that we have realized that we have some of those on our friends lists. Our political views are often what we use to define ourselves. But do our politics, make us single serving?

I guess they do if one view is the reason that you define yourself with one party or another. A single idea makes you single serving. I can’t define my views on a historical text, which could be either a great piece of literature, or a truth that we all must face.

While some rant and rave from their dark caves, scribbling on walls, and trying to light a fire with two twigs- there are some that remember that technology is a library card and a tool that can gather all the information that is needed to make your own decisions on what is right and wrong.

So while you enjoy that single serving of FOX News, or MSNBC, remember that their single serving views are designed to trap you in the tar pits. While you digest hours of pointless High School talent shows, remember these massive doses of single servings often lead to an acid reflux of contention. While we watch these judges bully contestants, and try to explain that bullying is wrong, remember the genetically modified apple never falls far from the contaminated soil.

Single serving for 24 hours a day.  A repeat of desperate rhetoric, force fed through tubes that can never be removed, or snatched from the paws of single serving zombies. Single serving post, with the screams of look at me, I am still here. The single serving post of I just drank a beer. The single serving vague open ended questions, or suggestions of need for serious medication.

So how do you find out if you are a single serving friend? Well that is rather easy. If your last five post are quotes from the bible, then you guessed it- you are a single serving Jesus. If your last five post are all about food, then you are single serving food porn addict in need of a food fix. If your last five post are nothing but ass, then you are single serving with the lack of class.

Am I single serving?  Well, I think not. I leave posts that leave your brain in a knot. From sports and cheers, even a couple of beers, my timeline will take you through the years. The years were I was blinded with single serving nothingness. Of course I fell for the game, but I decided not to play, or think this or that way. But rather express the true me, love me or hate. It really does not matter, they do not control my fate.

So lets us all remember that we can all be winners, sinners, ignorant, and smart. And we often need a stroll in the park. These next few weeks are planned to make us weak. Better stand now while we can still speak. Speak against single serving plots of war and death. Single serving plots to increase profits for the rich and increasing the poor. Because I will be single serving no more.

Go ahead delete, defriend or just pretend. Because some of us will be single serving to the end. While we say we do not judge, and we are full of compassion, then why or why not, do some keep on asking? To share their love, attend a better school, or be giving a chance. Because if you are single serving, let this be your last. Bring more to your life- that is all that I ask.

Yeah I want the job, but you need what?

Jobs, jobs, jobs, we all know that there are millions of people that are looking for work. There are many that will subject themselves to anything just to put food on the table for their family. But when do we draw the line on what information we are willing to give up for a job?

How about your W-2 form? Yes that is correct companies want to see your W-2 form. While people are out protesting the banks, and the corporate greed, companies are figuring another way to divide and conquer.

There is no need for a company to have all of this information unless they are going to use it to figure out what they can pay you, and what tax breaks they can get. There are many steps of the employment process that have done nothing but shut the door on those seeking employment.

No matter if it is a drug test, criminal background check, password to a social networking site, or your D.N.A- when do we draw the line? I can see that some of this information is necessary to employ people in some positions. But I think that these companies are taking information gathering too far.

Have you noticed the decrease of your friends on Facebook? It may be because they are looking for employment, and Facebook is the best reference in the world. The pictures of you holding a beer, or chomping down on that Big Mac, may be the reason you did not get a call back. Or the fact that you like Obama or support Romney may also lead to you not getting a call back as well.

Work ethic, education and experience should be the key decided factors when one seeks employment. But no longer are those the only factors that will decided if you get the job. Now things such as health habits like smoking, being overweight and political affiliation are starting to play a role in the hiring process.

Corporations are people, and these people are starting to use their moral beliefs to make decisions on who is employable and who is not. Of course corporations are looking for people that fit their culture, but when companies start to ask for a W-2 form all this leads to is a whole lot of mess. A very hot mess that that is melting the American dream.

No matter how much I support education to pull people out of poverty, I do understand that institutional racism runs rampant in our society. The new High School, a Bachelor’s Degree, is often the first qualification along with 5 years of experience. This is great for those that are graduating this spring.

We do not draw line when we allow for athletes to get drafted after they have several drug charges. Or Corporate Executives lie on their resumes, like Yahoo. But I do think that we should draw the line when it comes to our taxes, when the job is not related to sells at all.
I do believe in some sort of privacy, but when do we draw the line?
